Jeep president Mike Manley is heading to China to negotiate with Fiat partner Guangzhou Automobile Group Co Ltd about the production of Jeeps in China. Jeep already imports Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Patriot and Compass models to China. It would take about 24 months to set up a new manufacturing facility.

The new plant would produce Jeeps for the Chinese domestic market at first.

Don't they get it...if people don't have jobs, no one will be buying anything which means companies will fall. idiots! How stupid can this countries companies be. Jeep...Proudly made in China...yeah right...there goes Jeep down the drain. Buy one now made in the US and stock up on parts.

Chrysler/Jeep actually makes very little of its lineup within US borders as it is, if you are curious take a gander here http://www.media.chrysler.com/newsr...7F6BE3E7924AD9A755494FE5CE0E8?&id=9117&mid=18

Jeep will still make products for North America in Toledo Ohio USA. No jobs will be lost in USA. The plan is to build a factory in China to supply their domestic market, not ours. It's all part of the plan to expand the number of vehicles Chrysler sells in foreign markets.

Jeeps have been made in other countries before. Japan, India, Spain, Argentina, Colombia, Brasil, and many other countries have built Jeeps under license over the years. There's a Jeep plant in Egypt today.

That said, I bet that the plant in China will have excess capacity, so they could make extra parts for export. Like Black_ZJ said, lots of parts for USA Jeeps are made in other countries today, and then assembled here.
