Hardware for mounting to sides of utility trailer

Looking to mount stake pocket for spare, overhead rack, etc to my 1.5" square steel rail of my trailer.

Inside width is of a premium, and the the stkae pocket for the spare and racks may dictate a side mount.

Looking for a Rivnut -type solution--but I would like to leave the holes avail for hitch pins for the gate.

Any thoughts/leads on 3/8 and 1/2 inch recessed back bolts?

Agreed.

I'd want to know more before relying on a rivet nut or something similar for this use. If it's going to be bearing the load of a spare tyre mounted on a jouncing offroad trailer, I don't think a rivet nut would fare well.
