Has anyone replaced Maggiolina latches so they clear the Front Runner rack?

Hi all - if this has been answered elsewhere on here, please just link me - I ran a few searches and couldn't find anything.

When I mounted my Maggiolina on my Front Runner, I couldn't open the latches, as the tent need to be mounted such that the latches would hit the cross support bars when they're pulled down.

Has anyone replaced the latches with something that doesn't need so much clearance underneath the tent to open/close?

This is on the top of a w463, and though it was a few months ago, I don't believe it can be placed on the rack in such a way that the front and back were over the "blank space" between slats.

Thank you!

What a great suggestion outdoornate65 !

As the tent is off the rack, which is off the truck... I found a photo online!

This thread has a guy who had the same issue of the latches hitting the cross bars. His solution: grind them down. I'm looking for something a bit more... elegant? If I can.

thread

Here is an image (apologies for the blur) simulating what my issue is; the latch won't clear all the way down because it hits the cross bar)

Just to throw this out there; I can not move it backwards or forwards as then the rear one doesn't clear. I'm looking to replace the latches with something that doesn't need so much clearance under the tent.

...or am I the only idiot that has had this problem because there's a simple fix?

Just so I'm clear, that picture is not of your rack correct? Because that is not a FR rack.

Does your Maggi RTT sit in the bottom of the roofrack like the picture you posted? Mine Maggi was a size small and sat on the outer rail of the FR rack.

Looking at the picture, it seems like you could slide the tent back 1/2" and have the latch tabs clear.

1) correct - not my photo (as I don't want to put everything on the truck to demonstrate the same issue) but that is exactly the clearance issue I'm having.
2) I can not move it back 1/2" as then the rear latch would do the same thing.

Thanks!

Frontrunner sells a set of brackets that raise the RTT up an inch or so.....think they offer two different heights.

I just took a look at their website. Two sizes offered: $50-60
