I have two heavy duty tow ropes that I used to take with me in my land rover. One is 45 feet and the other 25'. They are both 1 inch diameter. The 45 foot rope has eye splices on each end. The splices are about 7" long each, easy to loop over itself around an axle, frame member or over a tow hitch. This eye fits inside a standard tow hitch receiver and is awesome to then secure using the receiver pin through the eye. I have used the tow ropes a few times, pulling vehicles out of the ditch on snowy roads on a few occasions, once pulling a vehicle back to camp after it broke down in the desert and once even used it to have someone else pull my truck out of the mud... yup!, land rover asking for help.. of course, it was in so deep, that I had to get out through the window, but that is another story all together http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/images/smilies/ylsmoke.gif
This rope was nice to have in my truck on a number of occasions and lived in there waiting for the excuse to get used. Great to have in your LR, jeep, Tacoma, land cruiser, G-wagon or any vehicle capable of stepping in and helping out when someone else needs it... or maybe for assisting in your own recovery.
