help with sanatana 88 NAS

hi.
1988 santana NAS.

everything was working perfect till the engine had a problem then
the engine misteriously disapear in the shop/

so I need to get an engine for it. ,, should I look for a diesel or
should I mount a gasoline engine ,,if so which one?

im debating whethere fix it or part it out and sell it in the US, I have it just across the border in Mx, its a legal with al papers santana.

its in monterrey mx to be exact,,not sure if to sell yet though, im trying to figure out what to do engine wise.
since I live in the border "laredo" I dont have a problem to use it I can even cross it to the usa as a tourist, and almost all of my offroading is in mexico anyways,im thinking bringin it back to life,.

this was one of the last on this model intended to be sold in the usa ,but when it got to the usa it was no longer legal to sell it, so land rover send it to land rover in mexico and there is where it was sold. atleast this is what I was told long time ago.

200TDi if you can.. the 300 is a bit more of a problem to fit.. The 200 in Defender form will nearly fall right in (including bolt to the bell housing.. 4bt Cummins or Big Izusu is a bit heavy for such a little rig. The 2.8 Dihatsu is supposed to be a stunning near drop in too.. Not much an expert in this other than talking with swappers.
