Helpful tips using Maps on MC's

I travel with maps but I was getting tired of them being $5-7 each when buying for the particular states that I would be riding through which can get expensive when there are multiple states. Plus unfolding and folding it can be a pain....specially when windy or raining. My tank bag on my Dualsports does not accomodate maps in a see-through pocket...or sometimes no tank bag at all.
So here is my fix. Go to any Wal-Mart or Truck stop and buy one of those big paper Rand McNally road atlas's for $5-7 each. If its near the end of the year they are normally on sale. Then, before your trip, just cut out the states that you plan on traveling through. I have found that those maps have about as much detail as one of the larger foldout maps plus they have enlarged views of the major cities.
I realize that some places have free maps but for me its the simplity of $5 and being ready to go.
Although, places like Death Valley or other Natianal Parks do have free, very detailed maps of the park and it is worth stopping to get one.
Hope this helps someone.
