Greetings All,

Last year, approximately 40 trucks volunteered for a cleanup day at Hollister Hills. This year, we hope to have more so we can cover the entire Upper Ranch.

Date: Saturday, October 23, 2010
Time: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM-ish (lunch will be provided)
Location: Hollister Hills SVRA
Please RSVP your name and the forum (Expedition Portal) that referred you to James by Monday, October 18. His email is: mobworthy (at) gmail.com.

We broke up into groups of about five rigs each and worked out which group was going to cover which area. We recovered a lot of material, mostly bottles, cans and disposable goggle lenses. After that, we returned to Area 5 for a nice BBQ and then hit the trails for fun.

BTW, this happens to fall on Make a Difference Day 2010, so I can't think of a better way than to make a difference with a little fun on the trails mixed in.

We could sure use some more help. Hope to see you there!

Best of luck with the cleanup. Kudos for going out there and making a difference.

I didn't notice too much trash on the few trails I rode during the rally, but the worst offender seemed to be Bud Light cans. I see y'all have a bubba brigade in California as well...

thanks! yes, most of the garbage was found anywhere from 3' - 5' off the trail. cans and bottles were plentiful, but the worst for our group were the disposable goggle lenses from the occasional bike rally closures on Upper Ranch.

i heard the rally was great! wish i could've attended...happened to fall on the same weekend as our annual trip to the High Sierra.

quick update: check-in time is 9:30 AM. the meeting spot has changed to the main camping area next to the old obstacle course. enter through the main gate by the schoolhouse. no need to pay the park fee at the ranger station. either the gate will be open or there will be someone there to let you in. you will be given your day pass once you arrive at the camping/day use area.

Area 5 is apparently booked, hence the change in meeting location and check-in procedure.

The cleanup was a success again this year.

There were many more vehicles and folks than the last time. Making for a better cleanup of the upper park. We didn't make a big pile this time as pictured above, instead someone had a better idea. We just put in the back of the parks trucks, making the cleanup much easier for the staff. :)

The cooks where again just amazing. Plenty of excellent food, even seconds if you could handle them, I could not.

I could...and I DID! :victory:

Thanks to those who put this on. The boys I brought with me had a great time and learned a bit about responsibility. The food was perfect, and company unforgettable. Until next time...

Awesome.. Which My Jeep would have been ready for 4wd (4.10s in the front, 4.88s in the back, weirdness :) )..

Is there a mailing list or anything for these sort of events? I would def like to make it next time. Its good practice wheeling with the trailer.

i don't think there is an official mailing list yet, although there was a way to sign up to become a Hollister Hills volunteer last year (no one really heard back regarding the program though). i would suggest sending an email to James (mobworthy@gmail.com) and see if you can be put on his list. i usually get an email from him when the cleanup is in its planning phases.

good times...nice to see so many trucks out there.
