Homemade Flip-Pac?

I have always wanted one of these toppers. They are such a perfect solution for my camping needs. Thing is the price tag has always prevented me from owning one. In addition, I have a very nice cab high fiberglass Raider shell on my Tacoma right now. It does the trick but nowhere near the way a flip pac would.

So...has anyone ever seen a home made version? IOW, starting with a typical topper like mine and a store bought tent. Then hacking the crap out of everything and putting it all back together to make a "flic-top". Seems like it could be feasible with some clever design and patience.
