I have been using this mod ever since I discovered it on TTORA and thought I would share. It's like a whole new radio for your ride! This trick works on the '01-'04 tacos, I am not sure on the first gens or '05 on up models. It also works on other Toyota models.
With the truck running and the radio on, press and hold the tuning knob for approximately 15 seconds (may be up to 20) until you hear an audible beep, as in setting a preset station, release the button. Now when you go back into the audio setting preferences it will give you an option for the mid setting adjustment, displayed "|| | d"
This setting will stay as long as the radio is on, however, if you turn off the truck with out turning off the radio it will reset back to factory settings. If you remember to turn off the radio prior to turning off the vehicle it will stay at your settings.
IMO, I have found that the following settings sound best for my style of music:
Bass - 3
Mid (|| |d) - 4
Treb - 5
