The 4wl on my 97 SR never really woorked right since I bought it. I found the little pin in the front actuator was taken out at some point. I trouble shot it some and could not get the vacuum to swap for the actuator to work.
I bought some locking hubs and just kept the front engaged and this worked for a couple times that I needed the 4x4 function until it popped out in the middle of a mud hole.
I used the rear locker to get out of that situation and got her home. I put the pin back in the front actuator but to get it lined up, I had to pull the vacuum line off.
Long story short, everything works correctly now. I don't know if the actuator was beyond it's normal operating range or if it was something else, but I'm beyond happy that it's working correctly now.
