I wanna trailer too!!!

Watchin all your guys with the trailers and neato projects has the juices flowing. So, here goes!!

Picture 1 is what I like.



Sitting around the campfire dreamin' and schemin' about how to get a M101 CDN trailer or similar. Seems I missed the boat on that one by a couple years to get a cheap one! Looked at some raggedy 416s and a bantam or two that had very unfortunate encounters with either a rock crusher or tin worm. Gag!!!

Meanwhile back at the campfire We realiize that trailer in the weeds in the back 40, formerly a Coleman portable light cart, Is about the right size and weight carrying class. We looks at each other, my partner in crime and I, and laugh," that just have to do!! Picture 2 is a concept of where I wanna go.



The bed is 38" wide, 60" long and 21" deep. Tongue is long enough so i can jack knife it and not bash the truck or tongue box.

Plans are to have a chuck box on slides in the back, propane and batteries in the tongue box and a water tank over the axle in the trailer box mounted low (maybe even sub deck level for light cargo storage above.

I have a bunch of 80-20 aluminum extrusion in the junk pile and that will be my main structural component.

Other details will include a 3500 lb axle and 6 on 5.5v toyota compatible hubs.

The springs I have are really stout and I'm thinking of removing all but the main leaf and adding a Firestone air mounts for a variable load capacity (possibly a 3 or 4 link later)

Tires are to be 245-70x16 on 16x8 inch rims.

Mebbe some treadplate fenders or CE Smith 32"x 9" roundies... (that's what is in the Rhino design). Got a bunch of concept photos that I'll post a few of.

Did a little work this weekend, stripped the the trailer chassis and started the body structure.



Used the beat up OG fenders but they are pretty ratty.

Ordered some 1/4 inch ABS for side panels.

Designing a chuck box to rail mount in the back.



Box is 21 in. tall and 60 long. Plan for a tailgate in back and a flip top lid.

looks good brother. dont overwhelm yourself with complexity. My trailer was the one you listed at the beginning it was just a basic utility trailer that was lifted and had a rack. You don't need fold out kitchens and complex power set ups to have fun. Harbor Freight actually has a really cool little set up http://www.harborfreight.com/39-watt-solar-power-system-68694.html. It would be great for a few nights to charge your phone or power a laptop for a movie in the woods, plus it has some lights!

I was inspired by your trailer very much. I lusted after it severely, but the logiistics outweighed a super deal you offered. The buyer got a good deal and has made some nice, tasteful,mods to really dial it in.



For now I plan to add some water storage and I like the the small solar system you linked. The extent of my electrical usage is something to charge my iPad. Camp lanterns a Coleman stove and a 10 pound propane tank is just fine with me for everything else. I tend to travel pretty simply. Most of my trips 3 to 5 day are supplied from the really well insulated ice chests. I am looking at a CVT MT Baker tent, again because it is simple and compact.
