If you liked that one.....How about this "lift Deck" trailer

I buy and sell motorcycles and machine tools. Lathes, milling machines etc. These are a bugger to lift into a truck bed so I designed a trailer that would allow the deck to drop to the ground and a heavy piece of machinery could be loaded and a simple hand winch will pull everything back together. A couple of big heavy steel pins holds everything together so the winch isn't holding any weight during travel....

Looks like normal everyday landscaper trailer.

But pull the locking pins and turn the crank and vola!

The front of the deck starts to drop.......

Followed by the rear......

Until the whole floor is flat on the ground......3000# Rubber Torsion axles allow no axle to interfere with the deck being flat.

I saw this post the other day when browsing briefly on my iPod, and didn't have a chance to reply. That is some of the coolest, most practical trailer innovation I have seen. Very nice work!

Im still trying to figure out how it works... but its a great idea! how long does it take to go from the down position to the ready to haul position, and vice versa?

My previous south neighbor got "motorcycle rescued" and the guy that he called used a trailer very similar to that. The "bed rails" are hinged at the rear to the center section, and then again to the tongue at the axle. The cable winch connects the two together at the front. Unwinding the cable allows them to separate (when the pins are released) and winding it in pulls them together.
At least that is how his worked.

What ntsqd said......That's exactly how it works.

About ten seconds. Release the large pins holding the front together and crank the winch handle backwards (its a gear driven winch so the handle doesn't go nuts when you release it. It will hold a load in any position) The front drops and keep cranking and the rear drops. Simply reverse to load. I've carried a 2000# lathe on this trailer with no issues.

After I built this trailer I was told about the Baxler or Baxter motorcycle trailer that uses the same principal. but I thought this one up in the shower, all by myself!
