Since the temperature has been at minus 20 we decided it would be best if I went went and looked for a tree solo while the wife and kids stayed home. We also had a pretty good dump of snow so did not know how passable the roads were. We buy a $5 forest service permit every year and head across the street from our house in search of a tree. Every year I have had to get someone unstuck (tradition now) so we'd see if the tradition would hold. With such cold weather and 2 feet of snow it was bottomless powder. I had scouted this summer for a tree and quickly realized I wasn't going to make it that far but was going to try. When you start heading uphill and only snowmobile tracks are in front of you you probably should start looking for a turn around. Needless to say I made it pretty far but had to use the lockers to get out of a drifted ditch on the side of the road. Finally found a good turn around and got pointed downhill. Decided to hike from there. Found decent tree and got her strapped down. I encountered no cars once I was up high so once I headed down I figured I was home free. WRONG Tradition stood and digging ensued
