Increasing towing capacity

I have an 06 E350 V10 ujoint van with a sterling rear and 4.30 gears. In factory form this is rated to 10k pounds. I am looking to tow a sailboat in the 11-13k range. The hitch is rated to 10k or 12k with weight distribution hitch.

E trailer doesn't have anything with a rating over 10/12k for the van. Thoughts or ideas on safely/legally towing a 13k sailboat on the triple axle trailer? Obviously keep the tranny cool and have good trailer brakes. Anyone gone down this road?

Thanks in advance

Some sort of lost...
10k lb trailer weight, but what about gross combined weight? I'm betting the ujoint equipped van is already pretty heavy.

How often are you moving the boat? It seems like it might be easier and safer hiring someone to pull it, if it's only a couple times a year.

GCW rating is about 20k lbs. I'd imagine your E350 weighs more than 7k... as far as I know there's no way to increase rating. I don't even know if an E450 can tow that much.

Figured GCW is GCW is GCW. Lame. Realistically this has the same components as a mid 2000's F350 minus the frame.

It may be lame, but I don't know that it's worth trying to do something other than stock ratings because insurance companies may or may not cover anything that happens when you try to exceed stock.

As far as I know you can't legally upgrade the towing limits. You might be able to pull one over on a cop but as mentioned in event of a serious mishap you might not get out of it so lucky. I would take the advice and hire someone to do it for those few occasions a year you need it done properly.
Why risk you, your property and others when there are options.
