international validity...

I took my test a long time ago in England and I'm way out of validity now  (it still tested morse at the time!)

My question is: If I were to take the tests again would I be able to use my UK licence when transmitting from various locations around the world or would I need to get a licence in every country I wanted to transmit from?

I apologise if this question has been answered before

It depends on the country, but usually you have to request a license from the country. The US and Canada have automatic reciprocity, but I think thats rare. When I was living in the Caribbean I had to get a license from there, and when I go to Africa on charity trips I'm supposed to get one also - but since it usually takes weeks to find the right people to bribe I generally don't.

Here's a link that might help you find the right answer: http://www.arrl.org/FandES/field/regulations/io/#cept

If you've still got your pass certificate or any documentation from the time the RSGB in the UK may be able to help. Things have been simplified somewhat in the UK now to 3 levels. However, you may find it easier just to go for your local counterparts to rise up to the full licence of your area.

Good Luck ;)
