Hi all,
New to this forum, glad to be aboard.
I've owned a BJ60 diesel Land Cruiser in the past (rusted away so I sold it), followed by a diesel LR 110 (started fitting for expedition use, but sold because of financial reasons), and am now looking for another diesel 4x4 rig that I could setup for future expeditions in N-A. Toyed with the idea of MB G-wagens. Saw this one recently for sale locally, 5 cyl diesel engine, imported from Egypt (see attachment). Rust-free, very interesting, but possibly has mechanical issues (not cheap to repair on G-wagens). Saw another one (gas model) which was MUCH nicer, almost mint, but it was more pricey, and almost too nice for the kinds of gravel roads that I want to travel on (in Canada's North, for example).
Figured I would go back to the Toyota Land Cruiser, for the reasons that everybody knows here. Diesel models sold in Canada in the 80's (60 series) are starting to be pretty rusty (with the rare exception), but I'm looking for one. THere are nice 80 series being brought over from Japan but I don't like the RHD steering, and these trucks have issues of their own.
Look forward to acquiring a good BJ60 or HJ60, with plenty of life in the drivetrain, equipping it with necessary road expedition gear (Engle fridge, roof top tent, GPS, etc...), getting mechanicals sorted out and ship-shape, and eventually heading out on the open roads in a couple of years time, when I plan on retiring from active work.
Cheers, all.
