The iPad has me curious about its usability as a multi-purpose dashboard-mounted device, or "computer", as a possible alternative to a Garmin GPS.
What I'd like it to do:
It'd be nice if an aftermarket, high-sensitivity remote GPS antenna was available as a peripheral. Its functionality as a navigation device is the only thing I'm not sure about.
It could really use more ports, too. A remote camera peripheral would also be nice, but now I'm just being unrealistic.
I wouldn't expect the iPad to live on my dashboard, but it should be no problem to pop it in and out of its RAM Mount whenever one wants to use it in-car.
We're going to get ours at work on Monday that I'll be able to mess with. I think there is a lot of great potential here, but I'm not sure its in the first-generation device.
What I'd like it to do:
- Serve as a fairly accurate GPS receiver
- Interface with the car stereo and play music
- Offload pictures from camera during trips
