It is a Russian built UAZ-469 or a derivative, built under license by a former East Bloc country.

Looks like the "Hunter" version. They are very capable, and built like tank. Also, ride like tank. But I'd run one :)

Why do people always say rides like a tank? Considering tanks ride soft and smooth.

Exactly. Nice and smooth, didn't say it was an insult to the UAZ, you assumed it was ;) I love the UAZ's

Friend of mine whom owns a Gwagon, and has worked in Russia surveying, said the UAZ Hunter would run circles around most 4wd vehicles, he even went so far to say it might out wheel his Gwagon....that's a pretty big compliment from a German fellow whom owns a Unimog and a Gwagon, and has run nearly every peice of heavy 4wd offroad equipment in existence, Russian, German, or otherwise.

I considered importing a few to Canada, but wasn't sure where to start, and if a parts network exists.

They also made a really cool 4wd van which is probably just as tough

Those are really capable machines. Just don't get into an accident with one. There no protection for where the drivers/front passengers feet are.

Meanwhile...in Russia...

And, for the swampy area's....
