“Hot” off the press…

When It Comes To Vehicle Fires, The Cybertruck Might Be More Deadly Than the Infamous Ford Pinto, According to a New Analysis

Sat, February 8, 2025 at 8:30 AM MST

“A new analysis by independent automotive blog FuelArc suggests that fire fatalities are 17 times more likely in a Cybertruck than in the infamous Ford Pinto — the posterchild of deadly cars if ever there was one.

The site arrives at that conclusion by comparing the total units sold so far — 34,438 for the Cybertruck, compared to 3,173,491 for the ill-fated Pinto, discontinued in 1980 — and comparing reported fire fatalities for both.

At the current rate of horrible fiery deaths, FuelArc projects the Cybertruck will have 14.52 fatalities per 100,000 units — far eclipsing the Pinto's 0.85. (In absolute terms, FuelArcfound, 27 Pinto drivers died in fires, while five Cybertruck drivers have suffered the same fate, at least so far.”

If that’s ⬆️ true, people may want to think twice about buying one of these! (Or at least stock their new EV truck with a box of graham cracker, a few bars of chocolate and a bag of marshmallows)🥴

The Pinto was a pretty good car, the problem was bad drivers that kept hitting them in the rear end bursting the gas tank, not a big deal, a fuel cell fixed the issue.

Not so good was the Gremlin, the same problem but less protection.

There have been two fatal crashes. One of those with 3 fatalities, the other 1. The 5th one is the guy who blew up the car on purpose.

Want to take a stab on what the error bars would be with only 2 incidents?
