Isuzu 4BD diesels.. New forum...

I know that a lot of cruiserheads here are considering various diesel swaps. An excellent engine that is available stateside, runs great, is fairly quiet, turbocharged, has good power and mileage, is the Isuzu 4BD1T. We are (rebuilding this weekend and) installing one into an FJ62 shortly..

Anyway, there is a lack of info out there on the web.. I have been researching this engine for years. Recently, a manufacturer started making adapters to various mostly GM automatics, www.isuzudieselswapper.com. This was one of the biggest hurdles to using this engine.

There is a great thread about it on 'mud (click here) and we just set up I think the first section for this engine on the 'net on my site, 4BTswaps.com: http://www.4btswaps.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=16

Engine is sleeved, here is the 4BD1T we are rebuilding. Sleeved is nice, makes rebuilds fairly easy and usually does not require machine work.

I came across one for sale locally last week but was unsure if I could get anything to mount up to it. What comapny has adaptors and to what tranny. Any specs on what the motor wieghs?

You think one of these would bolt right up to a trooper trans? Now that would be something to dream about!

It's in the first post. Currently they are only bolting the GM and the Isuzu medium duty cab over truck trannies they came with. We have a 5 speed trans around from one, it is surprisingly small..

Anything other than that would have to be custom. But we have done the research on that too, not too hard to make a custom adapter of some sort. Also Phoenix castings had some SAE to various patterns adapters. What is on the back of them is very similar to a SAE #3 round industrial bolt pattern. The motor is like an older mechanical version of this engine. Great little engine..
