Isuzu Trooper fans... some questions.

For you Trooper fans out there, I have a few questions for you.

My friend has a 1999 Trooper with the 5-speed manual transmission, he recently began having a very specific problem... When the transmission is in first, second or reverse gear... the engine just spins as though it's in neutral. 3rd, 4th and 5th gears pull just fine. Any ideas? Obviously there's a tranny issue here, but doesn't sound like a *bad* tranny... sounds like something very specific.

I currently own a 1992 Trooper 3.2, auto 4x4. It's a great vehicle and plan to drive it until something major breaks. It's got 150k miles and has had a new engine at some point. The body is in quite good shape, however the frame is pretty rotten, especially towards the back of the vehicle. Eventually that rot is going to reach something critical like a body mount or a shock mount. When this finally happens... should I post it as a complete parts vehicle here and hope someone wants it? or am I more likely to get a better deal sending it off to the junkyard or crusher?

Also, a friend of mine has a 1988 or 89-ish trooper in a barn here in Ohio. It ran as recently as 3 or 4 years ago and has a ton of good parts on it. I was thinking about dragging it home to part it out or find someone who needs a complete parts vehicle. When parked, it had an engine with only 20k on a recent rebuild and solid drivetrain (supposedly).

I like troopers, but don't know much about them... all input is welcome! :friday:

You will get an answer, but be prepared to get a little flaming (not too bad). Some of the people over there will tell you to do a search and some will post up a link. Others will be nice and actually give you an answer. It sounds like the clutch to me too. Probably the hydraulics. My Rodeo went 200K with the original clutch, but I had to replace the hydraulics (master and slave cylander) twice. When the slave lost pressure it was next to impossible to shift gears, I had to put the peddle almost literally through the floor board to get it to shift. They are pretty robust the Isuzu manual trannies.
