Jack mounting question...

Has anyone seen or heard of mounting a hi-lift jack on the bed wall below the cab rear window? Particularly in a newer Tacoma with the composite(?) bed material?

Any other location suggestions OTHER than on bumpers?

Thanks!

maybe this would give you some ideas - http://www.ttora.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39492&highlight=high-lift+mount

I guess you could even try using mounts like these -

or these -

as long as you distribute the force on the composite bed wall well (perhaps with some metal plates or large fender washers behind the wall?).

Looks like Demello makes one that interfaces with the tiedown slider rail.

I made this one:

I ghetto-fabbed a bracket for mine. A couple of pieces of steel that I bolted to the rails, and then used wing nuts and bolts to secure the hi lift. Can't really see it here because of the Bestop....

You used the rails! I hadn't thought about that... Since the brackets hang down, does the jack bounce around? As for the other brackets, I'm not sure I want to be the guinea pig to mount those on the composite bed wall. I'd hate to see it crack or split. I wonder if fender washers would be enough to do the trick??

On my S10 I built a storage bin along side one wheel well. I carried a jack inside this bin. My son now has the truck, so I don't recall the exact details. But at least one mounting point was fashioned from a strap hinge (T shape). One side was bolted to the bed rail; the long end of the hinge was attached to the jack with a bolt and wing nut. If I recall correctly, the base of the jack was bolted (again with wing nuts) to an end panel of the wood storage bin.

Since I tightened up all the bolts and put one of those handle keepers on it, it's remained quiet for normal driving conditions. I used fender washers in the rail (3/8" maybe? can't recall) to help distribute the load, and I think the 2 mounts are pretty strong. But if you didn't trust the rails, I guess a 3rd mount could be used.

For the bed itself, you could use bigger fender washers, or even a larger steel plate. The extra D rings I installed into the bed came with a steel backing plate, and I've used that many times to secure my trail bike (250 lbs). I can't recall exactly what size it was, but I'd guesstimate 3 or 4 inches square.

You could use quick fists and mount them to the rails similar to how I used a quick fist for a fire extinguisher mount I was going to do that for mine, but the way my shell overhangs, the base plate hits the shell if I try to put it up by the rails. If you could make it work this way, then you could have the option to move it around to where it fits best depending on what you are hauling.
