JB Weld

Only if you want it to stick...:p

Seriously, which specific JB product, and what are you using it for?

The quality of the adhesion is very dependant on the prep, and sticking to paint means it will only hold as well as the paint does. If the paint flakes, the parts...part.

I would agree unless it is very new factory paint, and even then I would probably scuff it very well.
What are you JB'ing? I have had mixed results with quite a few of their products.

it's kind of hard to describe, but I'll give it a shot. well I'm running ideas through my mind for my tablet pc mount base. It doesn't appear RAM makes a base that mounts to the seat bolts for '01 4Runners, only '03 and newer.

I was thinking of bending a piece of aluminum sheet like a backwards "7" and JB Weld it to the transmission hump (the hump is painted). A quick disconnect RAM base would be bolted on top, then a 12" or so RAM pole, articulating arm and tablet holder.

I think in this instance you would be better off mounting with either self tap screws into the hump,( check your underside clearance), or tack weld on some nuts and cut bolts to match. I think between the weight of a laptop and vibration, would give the JB weld fits.

Your tack welding some nuts suggestion is an imaginative idea. Thanks.

Riv-nuts may work for you too...like 1/4 inch. I would disagree on the self-tappers, too much leverage, IMHO. And if they give way, it will be at the most inopportune moment :smilies27

I cannot see jb weld holding for long in this instance. Like was said nutserts(rivnuts) work really good.
