Jeep WJ flooring issues

Hello Everyone!

So, about a year ago I picked up a 2004 WJ limited with the 4.7L. It has about 180k miles and is till running good (enough) for now. I have posted of Jeep forums but haven't gotten much help, so figured I would try here.

I currently live in Germany so some parts and junk yard finds are hard to come by. But here we go.

So, first things first the drivers side floor board is soaking wet. I think its been like this for awhile (the wife never noticed) so I'm thinking the carpet needs replacement. I'm ordering some new door seals to stop the leak first then going on to new carpet. What's your opinion on flooring? I have found carpet with insulation attached or I can do the dyno-mat and the none insulation attached or maybe both? I saw a few insulation forums, but I feel like the WJ is already quiet so really I'm just trying not to mess that up. I have looked under the flooring and I do have some surface rust starting as well. What's the best way to help/fix the rust before it gets out of control?

I don't have a crazy amount of tools so I'm trying to fix things that can be done in a drive way for now. Goals for now is to fix all the interior issues and get it back to a good spot then when I get back to the states the fun stuff will start.

If you have any advice at all it would help. I've never taken on a project like this one before. Please, let me know some do's and don't.

If the carpet is not covered in mold/fungus, just pull it out, dry it completely, and put it back.

make sure to check for windshield leaks as a potential source. Door seals may not be your only problem.

However, to answer your specific question, I am a fan of dynamat and the carpets with insulation attached, so I say both.

I have had success using roofers ice and water shield in place of dynamat. It comes in very large rolls and is much cheaper.

Awesome thanks. Yea I hope its just the door seals but I'm sure they are all going or have gone bad. Dynamat is really expensive, thanks for the other suggestions. I'm pulling the carpet to take care of some rust so I think ill pressure wash it and let it dry out. I might even lay something down since It's going to be removed anyway
