JK Snorkel + CAI Combo

Hi all

I'd really like to get a CAI installed in my JK. As fuel in South Africa is about $7/gallon, I'm willing to try anything to get better eco.
A CAI seems like a possible way to squeeze out some milage. But I really don't like the idea of a big open intake in the engine bay. Risk of water ingestion is just too high!
So the most sensible solution is to combine a snorkel to the setup. Yet it seems the only brand that accommodates this is Volant.
The Airaid CAI intake Teraflex installed in their video utilises an OEM type intake on the CAI enclosure which I think is brilliant cause you can just hook up a snorkel to that.
But unfortunately it's for a 2012 JK and I have a 2011... And unless I'm blind, I can't find any CAI with a similar setup for pre2012 JKs.
So I guess the only way is to fit a Volant, which I'm not too fond of, or build a custom enclosure.

Has anyone done this or know of any ways to hook up a snorkel to a CAI?

I used to have an Airraid CAI system and I dumped that system in about 6 months. What I hated about the Air Raid CAI was it bogged my 3.8L so bad at slower speeds with it sucking in the hot engine heat. I found off-road tours with groups on warm summer days it made the 3.8L bog extremely bad and power out on some steeper sections unless I was quick enough to downshift a gear. Also, I hated the fact of not having any protection for watercrossings was another factor that I dumped the CAI system even though I did run a pre-filter which was water resistant. Fuel economy to be honest was about 1/2 MPG better over the stock filter and box.

After I dumped the Air Raid CAI system I went with a AEV snorkle I can honestly say it draws in much cooler air and is a truer CAI system vs K&N, Air Raid CAI's that fit under the hood. I also added a AFe dry drop-in filter vs the stock filter and this improved the motor response & MPG. I would say with the AEV snorkel system & AFe drop-in I have gained just over 1 MPG and IMHO runs much better as it draws in cooler outside air vs hot engine heat and gives you the protection of deep water crossings.

Also, not sure if Superchips is available for your 2011 3.8L, but if you can get your hands on one this will also improve your fuel economy and add a little power with the different tune settings.

I agree. AEV + Afe drop in seems to be the best way to go.

river raider makes a hummer style that comes out the top pannel with the farm/mushroom top that will do the job. Only thing the others will have over the rr is they are higher up and will get cleaner air on dusty roads
