JKU vs Tacoma

Jktowhere writes, "So, would you pick a 12 JKU Rubicon or a 4 Door Tacoma. I am so torn on this and have a lot to learn on the Tacoma side, but the goal is a expedition build to travel around South America, the US, Canada...."

As you might guess, Jktowhere is a Jeep guy, with emotional attachment to the Jeep brand. He posted in the Toyota section to learn more about the Tacoma as a long range camper platform.

Agreed,

Have 2012 and have already had the head issue and a few other minor things so I had to ask the question. Making payments on newish car that has issues makes you second guess. I do agree the I am partial to jeeps and after the tread and taking a test drive of a Tacoma I just feel the jeep is better as I would never really use the bed as much as I use a interior cargo area, but it was a good topic that brought up valid points.

No simple answer for everyone, but thats half the fun of it.

I too have a 2012 jku rubicon but have yet to have the head issues. Whenever I think about any other vehicle versus the jku 2 numbers always pop into my head. 3500lbs tow capacity and ~900lbs payload capacity. I realize there are other ways to rate a vehicles worthiness but those two numbers stand out for me when considering an overland vehicle.

Geez that's a tough one. I'm a Jeep guy but always wanted a Taco, mostly the earlier generations that were somewhat smaller. But I have a friend who had an expedition taco - he sold it and bought a JK because he was unable to take it harder places - things were always breaking. So to me it depends on how tough the trails are - are you expeditioning gravel roads and highways, or are you going off pavement for days on end. Guess I should have posted this in the thread LOL...

There is no comparison, apples to oranges, each serve a different purpose with different buyers. And I concur about the last generation 4-door Tacoma being better than the current, it was smaller and better on the trails than the newer model that is huge in comparison.
