2006 Rally Course Champion: Expedition Trophy
Extremely last minute. But I need to get a trail fix before going to Vermont to visit my wife's sister. Circle K east of Houghton on Tanque Verde at 7 a.m.

Will probably do Chiva or Chimney Rock, but need to be home by noonish.

If anybody is up for it, it would be great to have some company.

Oh sure, post this up when off in NM! :( Give us a little more notice next time and I'd love to go play.:wings:

I ended up going, but not until about 8:30 and with kids in tow. It turned into a search for a sparkly pink rock to take home and a picnic (once we found a spot where there weren't spent shells or casings, broken bottles, shot up computers, shot up car batteries, beer cans ... well, you get the idea.

we found a sparkly pink rock, or close enough, and had a great time but I still want to do a more challenging trail soon. No, check that, NEED, to.

1. Decide on a goal
2. Set out to complete the goal
3. Achieve goal

Pink or not, that's an expedition.

Say, where is that cool looking trail?

Have you ever driven the back loop road to Chimney rock? It's a fun back route into the Chimney Rock area that has some minor challenges.

It's getting kinda hot now for the lower elevation runs. Another fun one that is higher up in the cooler elevations is Rice Peak on the back side of Mt Lemmon.

Let outa yell sometime if you want to run one of these and I'll go with you.

Chimney Rock is a nice trail...I have been through there a number of times.

*general statement, not directed at anyone follows*:

Please be aware that the area surrounding Chimney Rock itself is on National Forest land. As such, vehicular travel is restricted to marked roads and trails...the little "playground" at the west end of the trail, which is frequented by people looking for some Moab-esque rock crawling, is definately NOT on the marked road---thus vehicular travel is against the law, and contributes to getting our trails closed. So please stay on the legal roads and trails.

I was up at the crack-o-dawn that morning doing inventory stuff and will be again this weekend. After that, however, I'm open for some runs on weekends.

Up Redington Pass, trail 4436 just a bit before the ATV staging area 10 miles in. It used to be lightly used and clean.:( It dead ends after 2 to 3 miles, has a few challenges.

I love Chimney Rock, probably my favorite trail up in the area. Surprisingly, it isn't too used (except for the mini-Moab area GoodTimes mentioned, which had no trails when I started going, now is riddled with them:( ) It is fun to go either direction, as each has very different feels to them.

I don't do Chiva too often, too many yahoo-types, but I want to do it again soon just for the change of pace and some different challenges.

Rice Peak is a beautiful and scenic trail - I love the view from on top.

A trail I've yet to do, but is highest on the list now that I've got the suspension mods mostly done is Sutherland Trail.

Jeff, if you head in to Chiva from the east end of FR4417, you bypass three feathers and 90% of the yahoo's. There are a couple of very minor challenges...nothing to pose a problem for your 4 runner.

Actually if you just go early, the yahoos haven't crawled outta bed yet and the Chiva run is nice. I only see yahoos on Chiva on my way out and I do that trail a lot(somebody has to pick up the trash).
Jeff I think the trail your talking about is the road up the backside of Agua Caliente hill. It used to be open to the top, but now there are houses on the otherside and they don't want people driving up there anymore. It used to be a great spot to head up and watch the sunset over the valley.

That's awesome Jeff I haven't seen your girls since the meeting at the Rover dealership and They were in the corner playing with their toys!

Glad to see you getting them out!

True about the yahoos, they tend to hang out at 3 Feathers and don't get out too early.

Alvin, were you at Bangkok Cafe earlier this week? I saw a nicely built 80 there and it looked like I remember pictures of yours looking like.

I don't know when there is a full moon again, but anybody up for a full moon run soon? Did that last year on Chimney Rock and it is so fun.

No on the Bangkok cafe. There can't possibly be a nuther 80 as ugly as mine in town.

My calender says full moon on saturday the 30th. I'd be up for a run that night!!

Oh, didn't realize yours was beat. This one was really nice - snorkel, roof rack with shovel, hi-lift. Either very well equipped poseur, or just very well equipped.

the 30th should be good, I'll be back in town. Let's set up something ... maybe 7:30, 8 p.m. start?
