Initial impressions are great, question to those who have purchased it...

I have had very limited time with it about 10 minutes, so please excuse the noobishness of this question. Its unpacked at the loading dock of my work and we unboxed it to check for shipping damage. Stupid question is where is the transportation cover? Is it zipped up somewhere inside? I did not get a chance to unfold it and check as we were in a rush, but it doesnt look like it came with it attached nor did we see it in the ladder box. Im sure I can wait until tomorrow but wanted to get a head start in case it came separately and i did not order it.

Thanks.

If I remember correctly, the cover is folded up inside the tent. You have to unfold the tent and get inside and then attach it yourself. It just slides on through the channels along the aluminum base, not too hard really.

It will be folded between the mattress. I'm assuming you received one of the newest models (Simpson IIIB as I call them), great tent.

F.Y.I. the latest build of the Simpson III has switched from thumb screws to cam locks to secure the tent poles after opening. In my case the user manual still refereed to the thumb screws that are no longer there. If you do not have thumb screws then just rotate the outer portions of the sleaved poles and when they will rotate no longer the poles two sections will be (friction) locked together. Turn the other way to release.

Hopefully they are now shipping with updated manuals.

That would be the Simpson IIIC (my connotation, not theirs), however I don't believe they are shipping with the cam locks as of yet... soon.

They shipped at least one cam lock tent to me (received tent 3 June 2011).

Interesting, I'll have to double check. I was assuming early June but an email from ARB's tech department this last week said a few more weeks. They might have sold all of their last batch before even opening one hence the confusion? I've got a few in the hands of customers from the last shipment, I'll have to follow-up with them. Can you post pics of the cam-lock setup?

I will try to get some images posted Wednesday.

The cam locks work fine. The big problem is that the users manual still refers to thumb screws only. I thought I had missing pieces until I routed around forums and read that cam locks were going to be replacing the thumb screws in the future. When I rotated the sleeved poles they locked in place.

Here are some shots of the cam lock poles and the tent as installed

The shipping box has a sticker labeled BATCH NO# SHA021711. I noticed that they can be locked in place turning either way.

Excellent, thanks for the pics. I just confirmed that the last tent that went out to my customer was also the cam lock. From you batch it was built in mid February. Thanks!

I purchased a Simpson IIIB earlier this year, I don't like the thumb screws at all. Does anyone know if the cam locks can be installed on the IIIB? Would definately be interested in this upgrade!

Thanks

Yes, dimensions are the same so one could purchase the new bows and retrofit. They are easier to ship too!
