Kelly Kettle

I'm looking to get a 2.5qt Kelly Kettle, but I don't have $70 to spend on one. Does anyone know of a cheaper source to get one, or have one they want to get rid of? A 1qt would also be just fine. :camping:

According to this site new Kelly Kettles are made in China and aren't really great quality when compared to the original volcano kettles still made in Ireland;

Ghillie kettle site

Thermette has some tin volcano kettles listed on their site which are hand made in New Zealand and are half the price but have some blemishes;

"We have a supply of Tin Thermettes but each came with small rust spots, so we are clearing them out at cost... these are suitable for emergencies"

Hi Clark

Got a ghillie kettle as a pressie for Christmas and was not all that impressed. There was a oily scum on the water when it started to boil and even after numerous attempts it was impossible to get rid of. Have since purchased a kelly kettle and am more than happy with it. They sent me a coupon code 10%loyalty which I can use on my next purchase with them. I only presume that the coupon code will apply to all purchasers. Its a great bit of kit and I would never go fishing without my Kelly kettle in my bag. The 1 pint kettle is ideal for 2 - 3 cups of tea.

Cheers

The Kelly Kettle branded one I got a year ago says it was made in the EU. Of course, there is probably a town in China named "EU", but the quality seems fine and I have boiled water in it a few dozen times now.

I have found that pine cones boil water the fastest.

I think copper storm kettles is the way to go too. I'm going to track down a local metal smith and see if he can't flange up a copper kettle with a wider base though, might help keep it from tipping over in the camp fire coals.

Some other good info over in the storm kettle wiki;

I, like many of you, are not fans of “Made in China” and will do as much as possible to avoid products from there. This can be very difficult in today’s “Global Economy”.

I had been looking at the Kelly Kettle and when I saw this posting I was immediately drawn in. When I saw the posting regarding it being made in China I was…well….bumbed out as I knew I would have to look for an alternative.

Never been one to go quietly, I decide to write to Kelly Kettle and have them tell me where they produce their product. Once given this information I was going to lodge my complaint and move on to my continued search.

This is the email from Kelly in its entirety;

Dear Paul,

Thank you for your mail.

My family has been involved in providing customers with our now famous
'Kelly Kettle' for 4 generations and we have built up an excellent
reputation for Customer Service which only a small family run business can
truly provide.

The 'Kelly KettleR' & 'Volcano KettleR' are registered Trademarks of our
Company and therefore only Kettles provided by us can be described by the
above terms and only items supplied by us can be considered Authentic.

Different parts of our Kettles are manufactured by Licensed Subcontractors
in Ireland, U.K. & within Europe. Completion, assembly, packaging &
shipping are all carried out in Ireland.

Our Kettles are Not made in China as I have recently read on a couple of
blogs. These are rumours that have been spread by a company which are
making copies of our kettles and unfortunately are trying to damage our
reputation. We don't get into bad-mouthing other peoples products as it is
ignorant and highly unprofessional. Rather, we like to concentrate on our
own business and developing our brand, new products and our famed customer
service levels even further.

Our service levels are second to none and if a problem occurs (in less than
1 in 1,000 units) due to human error as all kettle are hand spun, we
immediately respond and provide an appropriate replacement.

I trust this clarifies the situation for you.

Kind regards from Ireland,

Patrick Kelly
Director
(Fourth Generation of the Kelly's to bring you our Kettles)

Great confirmation of information FlightMedic,

that Ghillie Kettle company could get themselves into some

trouble by posting slanderous or incorrect information on a net sales page.

Thanks.
