I have a third-party installed keyless remote plus alarm system, middling quality.
The alarm has been replaced once - the first one couldn't handle water crossings, the second is supposedly waterproof. Now the second alarm is having a tough time and I have disabled it. Note sure what the problem is this time, but I do know that most of the switches that detect an open door/hood are shot - they were junk anyway.
The keyless remote system gets gummed up every year or two, so I have to take apart the doors and clean everything up. I am getting tired of that.
Are there any alarms and keyless systems out there that are notably better quality, that can handle the dust, vibration, heat, and occasional water?
For the alarm, this means really high quality door/hood switches, and really good quality horn and main module. All dust and waterproof.
For the remotes, this means really high quality, dustproof, and strong actuators (or whatever the things that physically open the lock are called). (Of course, those actuators need to be rigidly mounted, which may be part of the problem).
Also, what have folks had good luck with for lubricating window & lock hardware that doesn't get gummed up? WD40 dries out and gets all gummed up. Will Silicone spray do it? Graphite? (I love that stuff for zippers!)
Thanks much,
Chris.
