Kydex - Anyone have expierence

with making sheaths or anything with it ?
I have a couple of axe's that I need to make sheaths for. I have an idea for a different method of carry and leather will not work, so I am looking at trying my hand with kydex. Just wondering if it difficult to form or work with .

That's actually the post that got me to try it too. I had very good service from the knifemaking site when I ordered.

I've made a couple of small items, I just need to build a press to make some sheaths.

Metcalf, thanks for the link and info.
I saw the knifeworks site and they have some good stuff.
Also, found a couple of things on making a press and will scrounge the items . I have an old sleep pad some where and it should work.
Now if I can just get the design of the sheaths buttoned down on paper, I'll try my hand at this.

When you make a holster or sheath, don't try and mold a piece too close in size to your final part. Give yourself a good bit of extra material around the edges, it can always be trimmed off later.

I just made a holster for my XD on thursday or friday.. it came out ok...

Well, I ordered up some kydex from knifekits tonight. So once it arrives, I 'll try my hand at making a basic sheath.
Unfortunately , I couldn't find the sleep mat I had, so I will have to pick up one from wallyworld to make the press.
Should be fun to learn something new.....

I have not made my own, but have watched a guy make me a sheath. Youtube has some tutorial videos as well as several knife collector forums.

Got the box a couple of days ago. Now need to make the press. Also, am pondering different designs for the axe sheath.

The press doesn't have to be anything fancy. I have 2- 12"x12" 3/4" thick plywood panels that I stack foam in-between. Then I just stand on it for 10-15 minutes to mold the plastic. If your doing really deep forming (over 1/2" on one side ) cut a section of foam with the outline of what your molding. This will get you better definition.
