Check out the 'new oem price' for item 50 ( FJ40 hood )....it is up to $1637 now! No reproduction options....and the used options are very expensive also.

Jeep CJ7 hood, new reproduction, $353 SHIPPED.

That is a good way to sum up the cost increase for parts you see for something like an FJ40 vs something like a Jeep CJ5/7/YJ/TJ.
They made FJ40's for like 40 years if you count Brazillian production.

I do wonder if there is more aftermarket parts production for FJ40s in other countries that we just don't see in the USA.

So? A hood is a hood. So you're comparing prices for an oem hood to a reproduction hood?
I just showed you used prices. Smh. You're special.
Not sure why you turned this thread into a jeep rules and Toyota sucks conversation.

I'm not trying to turn it into a jeep vs toyota thing. I have BOTH. I am building a really fun FJ45-esk custom truck build on an 80-series chassis right now.

I don't understand why Land Cruisers are not supported better in the aftermarket? ( non-OEM level support ) They where around, even in the USA for decades.
(Rovers are even worse)

I am talking about overall part availability vs the cost of that part vs how rare it is.

If your building a vehicle, all those things are important, I don't care what brand/make/model it is.

Case in point. I need a HOOD for my project. I have a rough used used that will work for mock-up but is beyond repair for final use.
I need to purchase another hood.
It is frustrating that a 'new' OEM hood would be $1400-1600 for the vehicle.
All the used hoods I have found in the $300-800 still require a decent amount of repair work prior to paint.
It would be very nice, and economical, if I could pick up a $400 reproduction hood that is 95% ready for paint.

Even a new Jeep TJ hood from Mopar is less than $600

It is odd that Toyota land cruisers are not better supported by the aftermarket.

I'm not bashing on anything other than price. I love them all.

at least he got one thing right - the defender has appreciated like crazy and i don't see it stopping now that production has stopped.

They are fun, but an acquired taste (I should know i drive one every day) - trying to compare a Defender to modern Land Cruiser (100/200) is apples to potatoes.

If you don't like them - think they are over priced, suck on the trail, whatever, that's your opinion - ever one has one...

I love mine - and I love my LC200 as well - they do different stuff, and other than a jeep 2 door, you would have had serious issues where we just went in VA (super tight private trails)
We were going to take the 200 as well - but after the morning, no way..

anyway carry on....

I thought the video was funny - and BTW only the lowest stock D90's go for money like that, as well as the custom jobs and the lip sticked pigs that are out there for the suckers.

I hear what you're saying and agree. The 40 is bad enough, but at least it had longevity and therefore is worth producing a few new parts for. Forget about finding reasonably priced body parts for the 60. I'm building one for my mom right now and I've already instructed her that she's to carry full coverage on it with a carrier she trusts and to drive it like a little old lady, because even a fender bender is likely to total it out. Realistically, I don't see the situation ever improving, either, because of the limited number of 60s and 62s in the US. I love the 60 - I have three - but I believe one day they'll either be too expensive to do much with for fear of wrecking or too cheap to be worth what the parts cost to keep them on the road.
