Last Minute run through Charouleau Gap on Sat 8/4:

We gotta go. Over the past two weeks the Catalina Mountains have averaged over 1.5" of rain per day. Some days on the north side (CDO watershed) were 3+ inches. The CDO Wash (the wash in the center of the trail by the Step and at the Catalina end) has closed roads almost daily. Things are different in there and we're going to check it out. THIS TIME however we'll run the trail from Catalina to Oracle (reverse our normal way). This way we can cross the CDO early in the day and if/when it downpours we'll be exiting the safer and possible way.

MEETING DATE: SAT 8/4
MEETING PLACE: Catalina MicDonalds (north of Golder Ranch Raod)
MEETING TIME: 9:30 AM....9:45 PULL-OUT SHARP...SHARP...SHARP...as we must beat monsoons

CB CHANNEL: 4
TRAIL RATING: 3.0 with 3.5 sections

VEHICLE REQUIREMENT: Larger tires, suspension lift, and, because of current weather conditions, the following will apply:

1. Sorry on this trip...no inexperienced drivers
2. Be prepared to keep a swift pace on much of the trail. Yes, we will play on the obstacles, however in between we will "move".

TRIP DURATION: This direction we should be able to beat any possible floods. Plan on 6-7 hours.

If you plan on coming please post up. If you need me you can call me at 520-975-1723.

Come on out and lets have fun! We'll be there in the LX450 to lead the way.

Gap run 8/4

John would you mind dragging along a couple of old inexperenced jeepers, we're not sure how to get to the mall that way but will give it a shot if you don't mind. We promise we will try to keep up with the big guys. Probably bring the grandsons along too, they haven't been out all summer and are getting the itch also. Will probably meet you at the trailhead and not McD's. Depends on the little ones.
See you Saturday.

Ahhhh....to set the Expo Portal members straight....Lonnie and Helen are NOT inexperience Jeepers. Don't fall prey to their dishonest posts!

Lonnie/Helen: I miss you guys! I hope all is well with you. I'd LUV to see you Saturday and it looks like Becky and I will luck out. Awe, crap.....your friggin' Jeeps can hurt my Cruiser on this trail. Can you tone your driving skills down a tad so I can be the star? :)

SEE YA! :arabia:

 Don't see why not, John likes dragging us little jeeps around so he can impress us with his big old Tug Boats. But really we need someone along to use as an anchor, especially with as much water that has been flowing thru those canyons the last week or so. :snorkel: I was up there a couple of years ago and got caught with a sizeable group late one afternoon when the water went from about a foot deep to five or so feet deep and three feet wide to twenty plus feet wide. Not a pretty place to be, listening to the rocks crash thru there in the water, very interesting to watch and listen to though. I think that was the longest trip ever thru the Gap, took about 14 hours or so. The amazing thing is that as fast as the water came up it disapeared almost as fast.

I heard about that trip. John would be in heaven....but we'll hope that there isn't a round II on that kind of action. I'll try to talk someone into her first off road trip, and prefer for it to not involve massive flooding....

Just tell her that all the wives will be there, and mine is driving her jeep and we are planning on taking our two grandsons with us, can't be too bad. Except of course for a freakie afternoon storm then all bets are off. The oldest of the boys was on that eventfull run, I think he was 4 or 5 for that one, heck he even had fun watching the rushing waters go by.

I'll definately use the 'wives' as a selling point....but she works for Pima County Flood control....and is directly involved in monitoring stream flow data....so I don't know how easy of a sell it will be.

Brian: It sure sounds like she needs a day in the field to study what she reports on? :wings:

John, it is 2:30am. Heading to bed in a few minutes. We may be a bit late in the morning, but we'll be there. If we are late, don't wait for us. We will catch up with you.
