LC 76 VDJ runnning too cool!

Hi,

Since brand new my Toyota VDJ 76 cooling system seems to be running below normal working temperature. Even in hot weather the water temp gauge it sticks to 1/3 max.
Today we took down the thermostat which is rated at 76C like standard VDJ. We tried a 82C but no difference. We bleed the whole system. Still the same. Connected the car to a Toyota reading tablet and water temperature was raging between 81 and 90 max.
Any idea where the problem is?
Thanks
Nic

Ignore the stock gauge for a second... do you have a good way to read actual coolant temp? Also, you have an 82C thermostat in there and you are ranging between 81 and 90C? (Is that tablet reading accurate? Too new a tech for me) That doesn't seem to cool to me. (maybe I'm misreading your post.) I'm stuck because it sounds like you are running up to 9 degrees C higher than the thermostat value... which means that the thermostat should be open... which sounds kind of normal.

How are you testing? Idle? Long steep hills? 10 minutes? 1 hour?

Long story short, I wouldn't trust the idiot gauge on the dash. For 1fz rigs, that gauge won't move till you've already overheated your engine.
