LED Dome Lights

Excelsior!
I bought three of these kits from http://www.ijdmtoy.com/ which have some bulb adaptors and two little LED panels with double sticky on the back. About $16 per box.

One LED panel

First thing that I did was to combine two of the wire plugs onto one bulb adaptor and solder the leads.

superbrightleds.com look for the festoon bulbs

I got the 6led bulb and it is reasonably brighter than stock for a decent price.

I also replaced the map lights with 4led bulbs. It all looks a lot better!

Glad this worked also.

That's great Jim! :victory:

How's the brightness compared to the standard bulbs?

Brighter whitish-blue instead of dim-yellow. With the two little LED panels the light is spread out more.

For double the $$$ you can get the Ozniums at http://www.oznium.com/thin-led-domelight

Here are the numbers:

Voltage at the terminals: 12.3 Volts DC

Festoon bulb: 615 mA current draw

Two LED Panels/ 24 Leds total: 170 mA current draw

The festoon bulb got so hot I could not hold it. It is generating 7.6 Watts of heat. The plastic near the dome light rates the fixture at 8 Watts.

The 24 LEDs were at 2.1 Watts total which is less than 0.1 W each LED.

I wish I had a good way to measure Lumens. When I stuck the festoon bulb back in to measure the current it was so dim as to be laughable when compared to LEDs.

one of my near future mods - most parts stores sell "LED tubes" for the undercar neon crowd, one lengthwise down each side in the rear interior of the 4runner would be plenty of light, probably just wire it into the "Deck Light"
