Lid ideas for utility trailer.

Hey guys...

I have a 4x8 foot utility trailer that I would like to build a top or lid for. I'm not interested in it being water-tight, just looking for lockable storage of gear. I currently have an aluminum ladder rack mounted on the trailer for carrying kayaks. I'd like to build the lid out of aluminum and somehow weld the ladder rack to the lid. Would hinge the lid on the front or side....possibly making it removable so I could use the trailer for "utility" type jobs.

I welcome ideas or pictures of lids/tops you guys have fashioned for your trailers.

Thanks,

Nate

So the first question is do you know how to weld aluminum and have the metalworking tools to fab everything up?

dig around here for a few pics of a tilting top trailer

How about a 2 or 3 piece sliding tonneau cover ?
Should be a used one some place.

If your gonna keep the rack you have I would bolt two long pieces of angle the length of the bed onto the inside side of each top rail of the trailer so that one side is bolted to the top rail inside and the other side of the angle is facing up flat. Then bolt, rivet, or use 3M VHB tape (weld and river replacement tape very strong) and an aluminum sheet cover to the angle rails. Bolt on for removability.
