I have an old Palomino truck camper that had a hard life prior to me picking it up. I use it mostly for solo trips to the turkey and deer woods. The spring that assists the raising of the top is broke so I crank it up and hold it with a pin.
Anyway, I parked it out in the weather and the roof vent leaked and the particle board counter and drawers have blown apart.
I've been looking for a while for an older Alaskan, but, Part of me wants to build a NCO A-Liner type camper. It does not look too hard to build the tub and a-frame. The voice in my head says that although it might not take too long to build, the costs are going to be more than I anticipate.
I love the thought of the classic Alaskans, though I have never seen one in person, but they are rare in Arkansas or anywhere close. I can live with the damaged Palomino for a while but need a solution for the next year or so.
Would you search for the Alaskan or jump in and build?
Brian
