I have an old M103A3 military trailer that I am converting. When we take off, we take off for a while and want a good base camp. So far I have a new axle to match up to the tow rig. I am also removing a few leafs from the packs to drop it a bit and dropping the stock front jack. I think that weighs almost as much as a 416. We have a 40 gallon water tank that I test fit down between the frame rails that will give enough room for 1" insulation and a full skidplate. That is pretty much where i am for the moment. I am working on the design for the kitchen and bed portions. I want a side kitchen with a slide for our 12v freezer. I have been thinking that with side boxes on each side for the kitchen and storage I should have enough room in the center for a good sized bed and front acess storage as well. This would give me a hard side setup for our trips north where the parks require hard sides. For more space for longer camps I was thinking of having an awning built that would go down the kitchen side and wrap the rear with zip off walls to close in the rear section for when we have friends crashing with us. As time and funds allow i would like to throw in about 120 watts of solar. I figured for now we would just stick with our seperate shower and toilet enclosures. I have an overhead rack I used on our flatbed to allow us to raide it up to get the atv's under the kayaks and canoe that I will adapt onto this rig. I figure total loaded weight around 2k. Our tow rig is a Grand Wag that is in the middle of getting 1 ton axles and 36's on it. My plan is to spend the winter and spring building so that we can take off for a couple of months late next summer into fall. We will shake it down with a few runs before then.
I have pitched the plan out as it sits at the moment. I want you guys to shoot it full of holes so that I can know what I am forgetting, overlooking or just wrong about. I have the skills to build it, but as you know it is easy to overlook things when you stand too close.
