Hey guys
I spent hours surfing the forum and the internet, but I still haven't really found what I'm looking for. I'm soon starting my trip north to Alaska and Inuvik and I'm pretty sure I'll go through some rainy days in the north. I would like having a sort of a shelter to add some living room to stay dry and for cooking and eating.
I have a Maggiolina AirTop and ARB side awning. I know that ARB offers a nice awning room with floor. I just see one big issue with this awning room. You still have to set up the awning horizontal and there's no way to flow the water off of the awning. I guess you guys know what I mean. After reading some reviews of the ARB (or similar) awning rooms, they don't seem really made for rainy and windy weather.
I found a nice awning room from Oztrail which is more wedge shaped and would allow to flow water down the awning. But unfortunately, it seems like it's only available in Australia...
Oztrail Awning Room
Another nice option, which I really like, is the Kelty Carport. I saw it on a couple threads here and on Ih8mud. Costco had it once for just 60 Dollars! Of course, I'm too late for this deal and Amazon has it for about 230 Dollars.
Kelty Carport
Another option are the SUV/rear tents. I can find dozen of them on ebay, but they don't seem very sturdy and waterproof to me. And with 200-300 Dollars they're kinda expensive.
SUV rear tent
I was searching online for rear tent, van tent, suv tent, porch awning, awning room etc. but I still can't find a good solution. All the van/side tents I find are from british online shops. What am I doing wrong? :ugh:
Are there any alternative products to the Kelty Carport? I don't need a high-end product, just something to keep me dry for this trip.
What do you guys use? Any solutions? Simply adding walls/tarps to the awning might be one, but not very dry and windproof. Some kind of a canopy/party tent? It just must be possible to set from only one person.
Cheers, Neil
