looking for an ultralight tent

Hi :)

I'm glad to join the forums.

I'm looking for an ultralight tent, under 2lbs.
My budget is around 300£.

The Sea to Summit Specialist Solo looks really light, however quite expensive (as it requires Footprint as well), and I was wondering if anyone here experienced it.

What tent would you recommend, under 2lbs?

Thank you.

I have been rocking an OR bivy with shoulder pole for years.
Three Layer goretex, over all pretty bullet proof. Has a dual door one layer is a bug net. so you can leave the front open but keep the bugs out. If the weather goes bad zip both layers shut good to go.

I have used it year round in rain, heat, deep snow. Solid. But small and not a true tent.

But it back down smaller then a Nalgene water bottle.

Hi cdthiker,

Thanks a lot!

I actually prefer a tent, since
1. a place to store the backpack safely
2. I just like the privacy and bit of comfort that a tent offers.

I've had one of these for a couple of years.

The price is a little higher than your aim...but used ones can be found on the UL forums. It's well under 2 lbs (not counting a pole...I use one carbon fiber hiking pole) and the floor liner can be used for a poncho in really crappy weather. It's not my favorite UL tent (a little too cozy at 6 feet tall), but it's light enough that I keep it in my pack at all times for unexpected problems. Unless, that is, I'm intentionally going out overnight. In that case I take a larger, 2-person Cuben tent that is a little over 2 lbs (but very pricey).

In it's defense, I was caught over night in a serious storm with this tent. 50 mph winds in a canyon for 9 hours straight and woke up to horizontal sleet in the morning....the tent stayed up all night. I kept expecting it to collapse but it held true. Other people seem to like 'em as well.

Bearpaw wilderness designs, luna series and some others in Cuben fiber are well under 2 lbs. Floorless, though. Hexatent is 22 ounces in Cuben. Throw in a sheet of tyvek for a ground cloth, ultra light. setup overall. You can add some screens(Optional) but obviously adds to the weight. Silnylon versions are a bit heavier, but add the option of being a hot tent.

Mine is a bit bigger, considered a 6 person(actually 4) 10' x 10' footprint, but with pole, stakes and screens right over 5 lbs, with stovejack.

His prices are pretty reasonable, althoug pricier . Even the tent shown in Cuben is just over 2 lbs. Mine, as you see it in Silnylon with all options at the time was around $650 US.
