That’s an interesting thought but really, how many people today have readily available cash in an amount of $40-$125k +/- to buy a new toy?

I keep seeing articles in the financial pages that the majority of folks in the US are basically one busted transmission repair away from being completely broke…or worse.

So, perhaps not having the sufficient cash on hand, coupled with painfully high loan interest rates has combined to stifle this market?

Here’s a simple test of that:
How many of you expo members could buy a new (or pricey used) rig for cash right now?
(Be honest now…)

100% agree!

ME!

Just because you can does not mean you should!

I have never had a vehicle, RV, camper, car trailer, boat, Jetski, motorcycle or another toy with payment in my life. Bought em for cash or I did not buy em. Yes, I still have most of these toys and most all of them need to GO!

NO, I do not want any more STUFF.

Funny how all the stuff you thought was KOOL when you were 40 and now, I could give a Schidt less about when I turned 60+.

I am at the point in life that it's time to downsize BIGTIME. I no longer enjoy working on cars, trucks, watercraft and campers. My goal this year is to do my family a HUGE FAVOR and get rid of much CRAP as I can. Better me selling it when it will bring Mo Money than saddling my family with the DISPOSAL of our crap when I am gone! Make a $100, lose a $1,000. It all needs to GO!

Going to events as a spectator instead of a participant is far more fun NOW. Made the 3-hour drive to the Southeast Overlanding event last Friday at the Brushy Mountain State Prison here in TN. Day trip as a spectator. Had a great time, looked at lots of rigs, looked at all the new equipment, talked to a lot of folks, jumped in the car and went home late that afternoon. Got up early the next day and drove 3 hours to Smith Lake in Alabama for another event, had a great time and drove back home that evening. My own bed sure was comfortable both nights! No worries, no breakdowns, no BS and lots of fun!

Seriously thinking of going to Expo West this year as a spectator only. Fly in, enjoy the show for several days and fly home.

Yes, I may miss some the evening comradery, campfire talk and that's OK. I am positive that hotel bed will be more comfy than sleeping in my truck, trailer or your camping rig!

The other thing for folks to consider. How much Moohlah are a lot of these folks with toys paying every month for the privilege to store the damn things?

Another payment to add to their monthly Moohlah outgo list!

Maybe they should think about exercising some restraint if they can't afford the toy? It's not the same as financing a house when you need a place to live.

Sure, it's the same.

You can get a 20-year loan on your RV and a 20-year loan on your personal residence and tell all your friends you have a full-time residence and a vacation home!

You will be the talk of the neighborhood!

Wants and needs...The things posted here are almost 100% of the time in the category of wants. I regards to the initial question, I have something posted here and have yet to receive any interest in it.

Shiiit! I bet over 80% are. I cannot tell you how many people I know PERSONALLY that finance every damn thing. Even tillers from DR Horton. It's ridiculous. I owe nobody, and never will. If you finance your life, you own nothing, and everyone owns you.
I bet 80% might even be low.

I finance when it makes financial sense but even then, I have the cash to pay off next day if it no longer makes financial sense. I agree, I don't want anyone to own me.

Agreed

I live the same way. You have too IMO.

We generally stay out of debt…but we were happy to go with factory sponsored 0% interest on our two last ‘financed’ vehicle purchases. Couldn’t get a cash purchase discount, so why not?

Sure worked well… ‘paying’ 0% interest on the car loan while preserving the same amount of cash to make @ 5% interest income on the money not spent (all the while also helping our credit score stay healthy and high).

There are always buyers in the market for what you have to sell. You just have to market it correctly and reach those people. And, the most important thing... price it right and it will sell. Just like real estate, it does not matter what the market is doing, if you have your home priced right then it will sell. COVID is over and so is the inflated pricing but the problem is those people wanting to sell still think their toy is worth double of what it actually is.
