Looking for pictures of 80s with different lifts/tires.

I went back through the recent Land Cruiser picture thread, but the problem is, not all of the tire size/lifts were listed, so I don't know what I'm looking at. I "think" I know which tires and lift, but I wasn't sure and there's a significant difference if Js are used or not, etc.

The tire size I'm looking at is 285/75R-16s. But I'm also considering 305/70R-16 which is the same height, but slightly wider.

The lift I have, but not yet installed is OME's 2.5 heavy. No Js or trim packers, just plain 2.5 heavies. I'll be adding drawers, slee bumper and winch all at the same time. I think it will work OK, but I'm just curious what it would actually look like before I do it and if anyone has a similiar set up they can share.

My biggest question now is tires. I know I want to go MTRs and I want to keep it around 33s. That leaves me with 285s or 305s. I figure the 285s will be more effecient on the highway as a narrower tire, will be cheaper and replacements will be easier to source as it's a more common size, but I think the 305s might look better, air down better and might even handle better. Any thoughts?

So, I'm looking for pictures with either of the above tire sizes with an OME 2.5 or similiar lift. I'm also kind of curious what 33s look like on a stock hieght 80 if anyone knows of any pictures of such a set up.

I really appreciate it.

This is:

OME 850-J springs in the front with OME 4” Comps in the rear. OME Shocks, N73 front & N74E in back and OME steering stabilizer. Castor correction complete. Originally, I went with the standard OME 2.5” but with all of the weight that I eventually put in the beast, they were simply not enough as I wore ¼ of my rear flares off during a journey through Sonora, MX. If you look at the last pic, you can see why I had to go higher.

BTW: Tires are 305.

Hope this helps!

Skillet.

Thanks much! Nice ROTW over on Mud. Your pictures help a lot.

Whipp,

Your pictures help a lot too and frankly, I like how the tires fill up the stock wheel well and even with the bumper sliders, it really doesn't look to low at all.

Does it rub under any conditions?

Well, I already have the 2.5" lift, so I'm probably going to put that in, but I really do like the low lift "sleeper" look. Hmmmm.............

Thanks! I haven't had any rubbing with these tires. I like the stock height and for now, just plan on lifting the spare tire hanger to keep that out of the rocks.

Man, Carl dogs me at work about getting a lift, and now I get it online too!

My Land Cruiser gets me beyond where I *need* to go and gets me where I *want* to go. And that's what it's all about. :D

It doesn't matter how much lift you have if it doesn't leave the garage... how's the 60 coming?

OHHH... that hurt. Then again, the 60 hasn't left the garage yet cause the places I "need" to go and "want" to go aren't the mall. Your tires don't rub cause you have a nice ribbon curb in front of your house...:sport_box

Sorry for the Hijack Brian. Can't help but give a fellow CSC member hell when I get the chance... it's good to be the Prez.

That said, you have already reffered to Mud and Skillets ROTW thread there, I am in no way taking away from what Scotty has built here but Mud is probably the premeir site on the net when it comes to finding the pics you want. I do also understand that the slightly smaller closer nit community here might find you different pics not available there.

Ouch! I need to keep it low so I can navigate the mall parking structures. How else would I show off my bling-erific gold trim?

Yeah, back to the regular scheduled programming.

Well....

After much though and research, I think this is what I'm going to do.

I think I'm going to return the 2.5" heavies and take the restocking hit. What springs to get instead is my problem.

I've decided that I would like 1 to 1.5" of lift over a new stock LC when set up with a slee bumper and winch up front and drawers, and misc gear out back. I really don't want 2.5" of lift and I sure don't more than that, which is what heavies will give me if I'm not REALLY loaded down

I "think" that 2.5" mediums may achieve about 1.5" of lift with my planned set up. But I'm also debating going with OME low lift instead and maybe compensating with spacers if needed.

Any thoughts?

OME 2.5" Heavies with about 2,000 lbs loaded (lost about 1"-1.5" of lift) on the rig. 285/75R16's.

It's a little too much weight on the rear springs. Im going to switch to super heavies eventually. For now it rides like a caddy and performs great.

Tired Iron, love your truck. Coolest build ever!

SOCALFJ, your rig is sweet too. That gives me a great idea how it looks REALLY loaded down. I'm curious about your running board/sliders. ARe those the ARB units or the Slee step sliders? The reason I ask is that I really like them and might get a set.

Everyone else,

After talking with Christo over at Slee, I decided to stick with 2.5 heavies up front and ordered a set of 2.5 mediums for the rear. I'm just going to do the 2.5" lift and see how it turns out. The reason I opted for mediums is that I have the stock rear bumper, no sliders and probably only a few hundred pounds out back when loaded. So mediums should keep it level.

But I'll keep the heavies on hand for the day when I do eventually get a rear bumper, sliders, etc. I will eventually be loading this truck down to the point that even heavies may not be enough, but that's a while off.

Christo is a great guy. Some people would just sell whatever the customer asks for no matter how expensive, but Christo was nice enough to talk me out of spending too much and even tried to suggest to that I wait before buying the medium rears. The only reason I didn't wait is that I have a trip coming up in a couple of weeks and I may not have time to order the springs before the trip if I truly do need them. So, Kudos to Slee Off Road!

I agree on the Christo being a great guy part. He sure is. Customer service still exists!

The sliders im running are the slee step sliders. They're perfect for grabbing stuff off my rack and putting the cover on the tent. Before i had to stand on the tire to do that stuff. Oh yeah and i used my rocker panel protection this past weekend and it worked great! first time!
