Looking for the love child of a Leer camper shell and an ecamper pop up

Does anyone make a simple camper shell that pops or pivots up? Something along the lines of a Leer cap that pops up like the ecamper. I really don't like the lines/looks of the FWC pop up types. Seems like there would be a decent market for something like this

Still too boxy. Really looking for something that you almost can't tell is a pop up camper. I would like it to follow the lines of the truck.

Maybe the Geo-Den is the closest I have seen to what you are describing.

But I doubt that will fall anywhere near the price range of a flippac ?

I have thought about your design many times over the years.

There is a market for it.

But I think it will be too hard to get that type of a product built in the price range the customers' are actually willing to pay for it.

:(

Maybe look for a used Wildernest camper shell ?

(see 2nd picture attached)

The OP mentioned no price point, which is why I referenced the Geo-Den and Cajita. Personally they are way to expensive for me, which is why I am currently cooking up my own DIY hard sided pop up shell :chef:.

How about this lift system on a standard canopy and a soft vinyl/fabric bellows at the perimeter to fill the gap?:

^^^ Way too complex and bulky. I'm looking for something that pops up in about 10 seconds and pulls down in about the same. I guess I could just stick a Maggiolina Columbus on top and be done with it but I would much rather have a sleek, integrated package.

I still can't believe there isn't anything on the market like this. I've looked for a long time and nada. It would be so nice to have something along the lines of the UMV J30 or that AEV concept pop top that you could just slap on the bed of the truck. The primary thing I don't like about the flip-pac and habitat style is all the tent fabric. My guess is that it is a lot easier to dry out a J30 in the garage than a flip pack.

As an alternative, perhaps consider the truck bed unit that you prefer and using the Maggiolina RTT as a pop top roof like the owner of this Volvo C303 did.

If you want to try an inexpensive proof of concept, perhaps consider getting a streamlined roof top box, some tailgate struts and some waterproof tent fabric and making your own version.

Ebay and Craiglist probably have a huge range of suitable, cheap, used roof boxes, and even buying new, boxes, tailgate struts and tent fabric will be significantly cheaper than a Maggi which you then cut the base out of!

Just a thought!

You're going to get some pretty interesting comments and suggestions Bakes unless you tell us a budget, and where you live. I, too, have been looking into a project like this. I currently have an ARE MX shell on my short bed Dodge. I have found it to be a high quality shell, but not big enough to explore out of for my tastes. We spend weeks at the river in July filling our freezer, and that requires a great deal of gear and cooler space. I am thinking that a Wildernest is the answer. However, I am thinking that the tent is pretty lame on the Wildernest, as far as Alaska Outdoors activities are concerned. I think, however, that having a shell that is already cut and hinged is two steps in the right direction. Plus, I can work on this idea in the meantime, while still having a covered load with my current setup. So, I am thinking that either just a 90 degree opening with a better fabric and pole setup, or a vertical lift system, like a Maggiolina would be awesome. Just a crazy idea for now, but I have already begun negotiations on a Wildernest.
I do agree with you on one thing-- that Flippac is too boxy and ugly in my opinion.
