I am looking at a 1988 e350 ambo with a 6.9 with less than 50k

good motor, not good

to old for 4x4 conversion?????

any help or advice would be great on this please

I have read this, good info here, but I don't know much about the 6.9 or the age.......is it to old????????

The 6.9 IDI?
If so they are very reliable motors, although under powered. The first thing to do with the IDI is flush the coolant, add new coolant with SCA and put an inline coolant filter kit (NAPA) with SCA added filters on it. Never do ELC as it gums these up. IDI's are prone to cavitation if this is neglected but it is the only weakness and will run forever if addressed properly. Just fuel filters, then hard fuel lines and a pump rebuild every 80k or so and they will go longer than you.
