Loud noise in engine

Just picked up my 2002 Montero limited.

Did a fresh oil changed and filter car idles fine no issue.

But sounds like a loud knock in the motor.

Valve noise or timing belt tensioner a common problem on these cars?
Car has 108k timing belt was replaced at 106k.

Like I said car drive fine and idles fine no smoke or anything, and when. I did the oil changed no metal shavings came out or anything.

Sounds like this

Any help would be greatly appreciated

That's not lifter noise for sure. Lifter noise just sounds like the engine is a diesel in my opinion. That has to be the tensioner. It'd be worth a look at the belt and try to get s peek down at the tensioner from the top. Sad to say bit 2k miles on an aftermarket tensioner and it could have been improperly tensioned can cause one to fail that quickly or they reused the original tensioner

Okim almost positive they used the same tensioner.

As the paperwork just show the timing belt and water pump and 2 tensioner pulley any being replaced.

If that is the case I would only need to replace the tensioner correct? That is if the timing belt doesn't need to be replaced from the whip lash

might as well replace the belt (cheap insurance) and just inspect the pulleys. make sure it's the updated crank bolt as well. only use an OEM tensioner also
