LR engine source?

A buddy of mine found a honey of a deal on a built up 93 LWB with the 4.2 Unfortunately, the sleeve is cracked on one of the cylinders, pressurizing the cooling system most unnaturally. He needs an engine. :(

He found a place in Oklahoma that has some "good used" engines - meaning they passed a compression test, as well as the 4.0 conversion kit using the next generation RR motor. That is more than he wants to spend at this time.

Basically he needs a solid replacement 4.2 to get him safely through until the 4.0 can happen. :costumed-smiley-007

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

I have had real good luck on getting used/running components from Stephen Peters at safarirover.com. I don't know if he has an 4.2 at this time, but he alwas has engines laying around that come out of working rovers. Also try RPI Engineering at v8engines.com and see what buick blocks they have laying in the yard.

Has your friend looked at getting new sleeves pressed in? It might be easier and much cheaper than doing a transplant. Doing it as a rebuild he can go as far as making it a 5.0 stroker and getting it cheaper then getting the 5.0 sent over from england. Throw in a MegaSquirt ECU and off you go. Did it with a friends RRC and it really flys. He likes street more than off-road. I did it the fun way on my D2 and put in a good old 300tdi

Go to roverguy.com, and give him a call. He recently had a 4.2 for sale, maybe still has it. He just did a head gasket, new radiator job for me. Good work. He will ship anything also, so distance isn't a problem.

All V8 rover motors can swap places with each other.. a 4.0 will drop in place of a 4.2 (not really a great upgrade).. the injection systems interchange and the manifolds and ancillaries as well this usually only requies changing of the front cover (type of oil pump or adding a dizzy drive).. the rest is very simple.. You could bolt in the block of a 1962 Buick Tempest if you wanted.
