LR3 check Engine light on again.

2008 LR3 83900 was running rich so I cleaned the Throttle body and ditched the K&N air filter for a normal one. after that it immediately kicked out a code for a bad MAF sensor and I replaced that. Now the truck is coding that it's running lean on both banks Any ideas?

I really just want to get this thing fixed and sold now. Three strikes Trucks out. 😡

I had a lean code on one bank and ran Seafoam through the fuel. So far, so good.

Is it possible that you didn't seal the air box and related tubing correctly after replacing the MAF and air filter? Either that or that you have a vacuum leak somewhere? Any additional air that enters the system after the MAF (e.g., if you are missing one of the rubber o-ring gaskets around the air box tubing) could result in the engine running lean.

I agree. A lean on both banks can be the result of air being taking in after the MAF and before the intake manifold. Given that you just replaced the MAF I'd venture to guess you likely didn't get things back correctly

I'm done. Been to the dealer four times in the two months 3000 miles I've owned the truck. Fixed or not this time this truck has struck out. It's going on the open market when I get back from Seattle next week. I can handle a truck I don't like "I drove my wife's college Liberty for two years" and I can handle a truck that needs a lot of love. But not both.

Well, I feel your pain. My LR3 has not had any major issues (other than leaky transfer case that I just had to pay to fix), but it does require a lot of love and maintenance. My wife's L322 on the other hand is a piece of &$!@$% crap. The water pump blew apart, shredding the belt on that thing for the second time in two years (along with countless other cooling systems issues and breakdowns) and left the whole family stranded on the side of the freeway yesterday. Thank goodness for Uber... my kids would not have lasted the hour and half it took for the tow truck to get there.

I'm sure a lot of is has to do with luck of the draw as well as how meticulously it was maintained by previous owners. I can't blame you for getting frustrated and throwing in the towel.

What year is your wife's L322?

Did you reset the computer after you replaced the K&N? Those filters allow much more airflow than the paper ones and that can mess up the air-fuel mix -- computers can't deal with that drastic change. Good luck.

I don't know if this helps. My light came on for a good amount of time after which I changed the MAF filter and reset it. The light would stay off for about a 10 miles then click back on. It did this for about a week - then it vanished for good. The only thing I can figure is that like other things with the LR3 the computers take time to adjust and subsequently readjust the parameters for the rover once it figures things out.
