LR3 sliding loadspace floor

I never even knew these existed, but I came across a sliding loadspace floor (VTO500010) on Craigslist that I bought and wanted to share.

It's almost the perfect solution for the back of an LR3, because it means I can have a sliding platform for my fridge and boxes to sit on and I can add tie down points wherever I want, with the added bonus that it's easily removable should I need access to the rear seats or the spare wheel winch.

Congrats on the find, they are rather rare. Will be very interested to see how you build it out in its final form.

I should have one coming my way soon. Glad to hear you are happy with yours. How is the ability to access the spare wheel with the unit and a fridge mounted? This has been one of my larger hang ups on other shelving items as I plan to have a fridge and other equipment mounted.

Great find. I am looking into options for my Defender/Santana. I have seen truck bed extensions that work similar. One of my issues with a flat bed is having sides or storage built in as gear with topple over when the floor is pulled out. I think that is why drawers are so popular as they provide isolated storage but then put the fridge so high. I see the benefit of the lowering fridge platforms but they are very expensive.

Be sure you have adequate ventilation around the back of any fridge for cooling.

Or remove the center back seat and put the fridge there.
Best place for it. Sneak preview of the Snomaster that now lives where the Ironman did (Ironman moved to Coyote as its home):

I'd still get one of those load space things to build out as a platform, esp b/c in theory you could pop it out and leave it at home for day to day DD'ing.

Thanks for comments!

I actually had some outback drawers in the back for a while, and they were great, but they basically meant giving up the trunk for anything else. Great if you have a dedicated rig, but I like having the flexibility to switch things around.

I like the idea of putting the fridge in-between the middle seats, so I might also give that a go, too.

Hey anglotron or anyone else for that matter,

Would you mind posting a couple of close up pictures of where the rails actually mount to the floor and what outside dimensions of the sliding floor is? I am looking to design/build one myself and my last big question mark is how to mount it to the floor. It looks really good by the way, wish they were still readily available. Does anyone know what the big design flaw was with them or were they just not that popular at the time?

Thanks,
Tyler

I'll remove on of the rails this weekend and take some better pics, but they just bolt into where the existing tiedown points are. The rails are actually two pieces per side that screw together.

The removed tiedown points fit into the aluminum track at either side of the floor with T-nuts and plastic baseplates that come in a fixing kit (VUB503120)

Thank you, that helps tremendously! Am I right in guessing that each base rail only mounts to the body at one single point, the rear most tie-down point on either side? My plan is to use all four tie-down points but I still need to keep the tie-down hooks closest to 2nd row to be able to use the divider partition. This thing ----> Click Me
I basically have everything thought through in my head and just wanting to make sure I can save that front tie-down point. I appreciate the pictures. Thanks

No, the base rails actually use all four of the tie-down attachment points, so it looks like you'd have to figure out an alternate way of mounting the divider partition at the bottom. I guess you could add some sort of bracket to the rails as I think there'd be sufficient space. Be interested to see what you build!
