LR3 Spare tire access

Wondering if anyone has designed spare tire access for the LR3 so that the tire may be dropped without removal of cargo boxes (if installed) in the rear of the vehicle. I have an HSE with 3rd row seating and spec'ing out a platform. It seems that it could be possible to devise some kind of ratchet through the small gap between the 3rd row seats.

Does this sound feasible without cutting the seats?
Any risk not leaving the 3-4" rubber gasket on that bolt?

Thanks

In my opinion, if you are using your LR3 properly (in the dirt), you'll want to move that tire out from under there. There are many circumstances where that tire location is virtually inaccessible when you really need it. I highly reccommend a proper rear bumper upgrade with a swing out mount for the spare tire.

Yup check out my RRS build. (Same setup essentially) I can get better pictures if needed but we removed the floor panels covering the spare access and tool storage. We then removed the big foam thing that takes up space. We built two bars underneath the drawer system that bolt onto the stock tie down points. These lifted up the drawers as well as provided tons of storage room underneath while providing access to the spare.

The big advantage I see this way is you dont lose that space underneath. Every little bit of storage is handy so gaining all that space underneath is great. Plus none of it flies around the cab or is visible to people outside.

Until you've changed a front wheel on a cold, windswept Scottish hillside with the jack sinking 5 inches into the mud before it lifted the car.

You haven't changed a tyre.
Also, many of us have spare wheel protectors as D3/4 and RRS spares have a nasty habit of being stolen. Which is bad.

have a look at this...from a DIY storage box build on disco3 (click the image to enlarge):

This is how a lot of folks access their spares in case you only wanted to spend let's say $5 for an extension instead of $1,500 for a swingaway to find a good spare solution. Of course, if I'm ever needing to change a spare in a windswept Scottish hillside where my rig sinks 5 inches into the ground, I might be in trouble. But in normal wheeling situations here in socal, this is a great, inexpensive solution.

I would love that solution.
Having a dog in the back rules out having a rod sticking through the floor. Otherwise i would have one. :(

I fear you may have cursed your tyre changes as well now... :p

Jinx!!!

FWIW, I live in SoCal, and my comments are based on experience.

Moohaahhaaa!

I know! I've wheeled with you - on a trail you have led! <insert evil laugh and spooky mystery music here >

A.J.M. - if you have an LR3 seven seater you can easily use a smaller extension that stops just in between your two seven seats leaving your floor flush for the doggie. I think you can configure something like that with the five seater too without removing the floor.
