LR4 engine issues?

Looking at purchasing an LR4. Largely after reading others comments here which helped to open up my mind about these "modern" rovers and their actual capability.

I was recently told that the LR4s have had some issues with the engines compared to the LR3s that have had virtually none. Apparently the issue comes from a different injection system that is built into the block? If premium fuel isn't used or incorrect oil, they can have issues and need to be replaced at the cost of 5k a side. Dealers have even denied warranty claims if they find out the incorrect oil was used on a single change.

I don't recall seeing anything mentioned on this or could find elsewhere, so thought would see if anyone has any experience here.

Seems like the 3s are going strong through 200k even over 300k miles besides the usual items mentioned frequently here. Anything else popping up on higher milage 4s that should be aware of?

Any input is appreciated as I am searching.

Lr3 and lr4 have completely different engines. There is also the sc v6 in the lr4.
A lot of differences i don't have time to type out.
Yes fuel and oil quality makes a huge difference in the lr4.

A 200k lr3 has a worn out body and interior.

I've actually heard of more problems with the 3's engines (dirty fuel injectors) than with the 4's. You can go search the Jag forums too as they use the same 5.0L DI V8's as the 4's and no real problems to report.

Run 93 octane and use the recommended LR engine oil or I use Mobil 1 Full Synthetic Extended Performance (meets all the same standards and is a bit cheaper).

Te LR4 is a great vehicle, but it is finicky about having the right fuel and oil, etc.

Pretty much the only issue that bugs me about the LR4 (and LR3) is why the control arms need replacing as often as they do.

I've owned an LR3 and currently use an LR4, the motor in the LR4 is light years ahead of the LR3, changing the oil in LR4 is also far easier...

All that said I drove the LR3 for 74k before getting the LR4 which now has 56k and never had any issues with either V8... No experience on SCV6.
